Outdoor Woods Classroom

Our beautiful Outdoor Woods Classroom is a beloved place for classes to come to work outside. It is also a favorite spot after school.

The outdoor classroom is in a field that is maintained by the school maintenance team, but the PTO instigates action to maintain the classroom twice a year-- spring and fall.

The yellow sun shade needs to be taken down in early November every year before heavy snowfall. The PTO must co-ordinate with the school custodians to take down the shade and store it in the school for the winter.

The yellow sun shade needs to be put back up every spring near the end of April, to be in place for the summer. The job requires at least two people. It is usually put back up in conjunction with an outdoor classroom clean up day.

Spring Clean up day requires volunteers, 6-8 yards of mulch, wheel barrows, pitch forks, metal garden rakes and shovels. The woods paths need to be mulched, the classroom re-covered in wood chips, the sun shade put up and the log benches and stumps need to be put back into a classroom order. Please see photos and drawings for set up.

Thank you for keeping our Outdoor Woods Classroom in top shape!
